My client runs a successful business offering expert advice and guidance on Research and Development Tax Credits, they have over 15 years’ experience of investigating, analysing and preparing reports that have generated over £10 million of corporation tax savings for local companies across Northern Ireland. 

Companies that show innovation, develop new concepts, implement new software, improve processes or incorporate environmental features into designs may unknowingly be demonstrating real R&D, it doesn’t have to be restricted to people wearing white coats in labs. My client specialises in helping these companies claim substantial rebates back from HMRC.

Due to continued business growth they seek to appoint a Technical Report Writer to directly support the MD on daily basis.

This promises to be an interesting and varied role, you will accompany the MD on client site visits to enable you to better understand their services, products, procedures, processes and protocols. You will discuss potential areas of innovation, questioning and fact-finding with engineers, technicians and financial staff, you’ll gather, record and take notes of all conversations to enable you to give an accurate, detailed synopsis/snapshot of the business.  

You will also carry out on-line research and gather industry specific data to compliment your findings in a technical report that will be submitted to HMRC. The report will also include bespoke calculations of related expenditure, salaries and contributions. These figures are produced by the MD who is a well-respected Chartered Accountant / Chartered Tax Adviser. You will verify these calculations to ensure allowances, formulas and uplifts are applied in full compliance with current tax relief legislation.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to build rapport with clients and be adept at using Microsoft Office package with proven administration/data input ability. You will have the ability to absorb technical data from a wide variety of sources, industries, then produce a well written, accurate report that presents your evidence (in layman’s terms) of adherence with HMRC claim guidelines.

Applicants will be educated to degree level ideally in an engineering, IT, technical or scientific subject with a real aptitude for understanding new concepts, designs and innovation.  This supporting role offers career development into a R&D Technical Analyst position, where you would carry out your own visits, investigations and analysis.   

Client is offering a starting salary to £25,000 to £30,000 depending on skills and experience. Candidates should have access to their own car, 45p mileage allowance will be paid. 28 days holiday, laptop, mobile etc. 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Based out of smart office in Newtownards Town Centre.
