The Role

Almac Diagnostics is a personalised medicine company focused on the discovery, development and commercialisation of diagnostic and companion diagnostic tests.  Our committed and passionate cross-functional teams provide services for several multi-national Pharmaceutical companies, developing diagnostics solutions and generating vital data in key therapeutic areas including Oncology and Immunology.

As a member of the Data Sciences & Biostatistics group, the Senior Bioinformatics Scientist will provide computational data analysis support for a wide range of biomarker research, development and validation projects. 

Working as part of the Bioinformatics team, you will be responsible for developing novel Next Generation Sequencing pipelines and solutions, in addition to supporting Almac Diagnostics’ capabilities in all other aspects of bioinformatics commercial services and analysis at appropriate levels of complexity.  The ability to work in a fast-paced, project orientated environment, and to plan and execute objectives under tight timelines is essential.

This role can be based at either our site in Craigavon, Northern Ireland or Manchester, England.


Essential Criteria

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or related subject (or equivalent level qualification)
  • Significant industry experience working in the field of Bioinformatics
  • Experience with methods used to QC, process and interpret Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data from a variety of platforms (e.g Illumina NextSeq, MiSeq etc)
  • Experience using standard tools (e.g. BWA, samtools, vcftools, Picard, GATK, STAR, Cufflinks) and public resources for NGS analysis
  • Experience in analysis and interpretation of genomic datasets, particularly from NGS platforms.
  • Experience in developing novel algorithms and software tools for custom NGS pipelines and analyses
  • Experience in using statistical computing languages such as R and/or Matlab
  • Experience with biological data integration and visualisation

Desirable Criteria

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or related discipline
  • Experience in the discovery, development and validation of biomarkers from biological data
  • Experience of software development
  • Experience of presenting methods and results at international conferences or events
