The Role

The role of General Manager is an important one within the Golf Club, reporting directly to the Honorary Secretary. We are seeking an experienced Business Manager who will be responsible for the smooth running and functioning of the Golf Club, with demonstrable skills across a range of areas, including:

  • Manage all aspects of the Club, on the course and in the Clubhouse.
  • Secure and protect the Club’s assets and finances.
  • Promote SPGC and progress initiatives to increase revenue and membership.
  • Administer and implement the Club’s policies as set out by the Council.
  • Ensure that services and facilities are delivered and maintained to a high standard to maximise member and guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure that all employees are appropriately managed, motivated and enabled to carry out their roles to a high standard.

The Person

This role would suit an ambitious and experienced individual with the ability to manage an established team, improve membership numbers and increase bar and restaurant revenue.

Essential Criteria(evidence to be provided at application).

  • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team of staff.
  • Experience of managing a sizeable commercial, customer facing business.
  • Experience of managing a significant profit and loss account, with emphasis on cost control.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Conversant with employment law.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements, including Health and Safety, Data Protection, Equality and Risk Management.
  • A background in administration with a relevant organisation/business
  • Competent with information technology, including experience with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Work flexible hours, taking meeting minutes as required at Council and Sub-Committee meetings and attending designated functions. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Marketing experience.
  • Negotiating skills.
  • A thorough knowledge of golf in Ireland.
  • Experience in bar/restaurant management.
